TATTOO AFTERCARE
Proper aftercare is essential for the healing and longevity of your tattoo. At our studio, we use Second Skin, a medical-grade, breathable adhesive film that acts as a barrier against bacteria and friction while allowing your tattoo to heal cleanly and safely.
After your session, your tattoo will be carefully cleaned and covered with Second Skin. You can leave this initial bandage on for 3 to 7 days, depending on how much plasma and ink buildup occurs. If the film fills with fluid, it’s completely normal. You can leave it as is unless it starts to leak or feel uncomfortable.
Removing the second skin
To remove Second Skin:
-
Gently peel it off under lukewarm water (like in the shower), pulling slowly and in the direction of hair growth.
-
Do not rip it off dry, as it may irritate your skin.
Once removed, gently wash your tattoo with unscented, antibacterial soap and pat it dry with a clean paper towel. Allow it to air-dry for 10–15 minutes
During this time:
-
Avoid sun exposure, intense sweating or submerging the tattoo (no pools, saunas, hot tubs, or baths and def no swimming).
-
Showering is totally fine.
After Removing Second Skin
Once the second skin bandage is removed:
-
Wash your tattoo gently and apply a thin layer of fragrance-free moisturizer (like Weber E. Lubriderm, Aveeno, or Panthenol).
-
Do this 2–3 times daily for the next 2 weeks.
What to Expect
Your tattoo may peel, flake, or feel slightly itchy — this is all part of the healing process.
Do not scratch or pick at your tattoo. Let it heal naturally to avoid damaging the artwork.
If you notice excessive redness, swelling, or signs of infection, please contact your artist or a healthcare professional.
Follow these steps and your tattoo will heal beautifully!
